Announcing a collaboration between the NEPA VMA and the Gazette

We at the Independent Gazette are excited to announce a unique partnering with the Northeastern Pennsylvania Veterans Multicare Alliance (NEPA VMA) to bring the Veteran of the Month program to Gazette readers. This column is designed to recognize local veterans, in addition to being a conduit for any veterans needing assistance, having questions, or looking for guidance or help in working through the copious quantities of red tape the veterans must navigate on a regular basis. Please feel free to contact the organization, located at 71 West Northampton Street, Wilkes Barre, 18701. Their phone number is (570) 706-2066. We encourage the public to contact the Gazette or the NEPA Veteran Multicare Alliance with any story, information, or question, as we’ll be highlighting such community input monthly. We’ll also be publishing notice of events of particular interest to vets.

In Pennsylvania, you are eligible to apply for that benefit if you meet the requirements, and based on what you submitted, your disability is 50 percent, but would need to be 100 percent (total and permanent), as assigned by the Veterans Administration. Also, the Veteran has to have served during a period of war, as defined by Congress, and have an income below the threshold amount. I hope this helps in your tax planning.

Ask the Vet Rep! September 2013

I’m proud to say that my Grandfather is a World War II vet. He served in Europe and was involved in 5 major battles including D-Day and the Battle of the Bulge. He recently discovered that his medals have been stolen from his home. Since he will be turning 90 in September, I wanted to see if I could get him a copy of his military record and replacement medals.
