Lackawanna County Commissioners Bike Safety Fair Set For April 25 At PNC Field

Finally, winter is about to leave town.
The nice weather always ushers in bike season. The streets and playgrounds will be filled with youngsters riding their bikes. It is vitally important for bicycles to be in tip-top shape, children to have the proper equipment, and drivers and youth to be well-versed in the rules of biking and the road.
On Saturday, April 25, the Lackawanna County Commissioners Jim Wansacz, Patrick M. O’Malley, and Edward G. Staback are sponsoring the third annual bike safety fair and helmet giveaway at a brand new location — PNC Field, Montage Mountain Road, Moosic, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Three hundred helmets will be given away free of charge to the youngsters who attend. Bike safety talks will be given by the Scranton Police Department. A bike rodeo is also planned to help the youngsters learn how to navigate in all kinds of weather and terrain.
PNC Bank is the presenting sponsor. Other sponsoring firms are Cedar Bike & Paddle, Gerrity’s Supermarkets, the Scranton/Wilkes Barre RailRiders, and Legends Hospitality Management.
In order to receive a helmet at the fair, the youngsters will be required to attend a brief bike safety talk. When the presentation is complete, the children will be given a hand stamp to pick up their helmet.
The Lackawanna Heritage Valley Authority will be supervising the bike rodeo and safety checks. Several fun activities, child finger printing by the District Attorney’s Office, and giveaways are planned. The Scranton Public Library’s Bookmobile will also be on site.
Kato, the Sheriff Department’s bomb detection canine, will be on hand for various demonstrations.
Hot Dogs will be served, compliments of Gerrity’s Supermarkets.
