Wilkes-Barre City Parking Authority to testify before federal grand jury

Tom Torbik, executive director of the Wilkes-Barre City Parking Authority, confirmed at the authority’s April meeting on the 15th his receipt of a subpoena to testify before a federal grand jury in Scranton. Torbik refused to comment on the nature of the subpoena or on what information the grand jury may be seeking. He also denied a request by the Independent Gazette for a copy of the document, but did state that “the parking authority and its members will fully comply with the request of the subpoena.”

When asked by authority member Mary Ann King if the entire authority would need to report to the grand jury in Scranton, Torbik responded, “I imagine you all will — yes.”

Torbik referred any further questions to the parking authority’s solicitor, Murray Ufberg, of RJG (Rosenn, Jenkins & Greenwald). Calls to RJG seeking comment were not immediately returned.
