Live Free or Die

Is this country in the middle of revolution? The answer would depend on your interpretation of the word “revolution.” Some people think that it’s not the right word for what America should be trying to achieve and prefer “evolution,” which I don’t object to, but once again, it depends on the interpretation of the term.

So, back to “revolution,” this pregnant word that has been thrown around for quite some time in recent years, but now seems that you can’t talk politics at all without this word being brought up. So, I think it’s fair to say that many people are giving the whole notion a lot of thought. Now, I don’t believe that the current state of affairs in this nation and the talk of “revolution” is limited to Republicans, Democrats, Libertarians, Independents or any one group for that matter, and I’ll tell you why. I believe it would be extremely difficult to find somebody who truly believes that everything is going swell here in the United States. Nevertheless, the prevailing attitude seems to be, “Let’s keep moving along like we always do and don’t give it another thought.” Honestly, if I did hear somebody say that I would probably question their mental condition.

What I am experiencing now is a climate in which it’s nearly impossible to find someone that is actually pleased with the direction in which this country is heading. And for the sake of being thorough, if somebody did try to make the case that everything is all rainbows and unicorns in America, I would just counter by asserting that that person is obviously uninformed. “We can’t trust the government,” “The mainstream media is all propaganda,” and statements along those lines are what I’m hearing on a regular basis now, and often from individuals who aren’t even politically active.

Now, I can delve much deeper into those statements about the government and the media, but I certainly don’t have the space for that inquiry here and I think the point has been made. So, it seems we have a nation of disgruntled citizens who are not at all happy with what is currently taking place. How, then, is it possible to have so many unhappy with a situation, but who do absolutely nothing to change it?

Let’s stop trading our liberties for false security, and start learning how to live free again.

So, is this really the “Land of the Free” when the US has more of its citizens incarcerated, by far, than any other nation on the planet? I wanted to include some statistics but there are so many it would be impossible to report them in this article fairly. And these incarceration facts are absolutely embarrassing, as lives are ruined every day because of arbitrary laws and regulations. One can argue which laws might be needed and which are obviously revenue sources, in fact there are so many laws in the U.S. that finding a reliable definitive count is next to impossible. Since government sources, themselves, cannot even agree on how many laws are in existence, does anybody still want to make the claim that it’s indeed the land of the free?

The US Congress has morphed into a gang of people that justify taking your money and/or freedom, who are then evaluated based on how much money they have made for “the State” (government) and how many laws they’ve passed. When elections come around, the people want to know how many bills were actually signed into law. So, is this the standard of a good politician? How much money they can extract from people and how “tough on crime” they are?

That’s the “Land of the Free” in modern America. As far as the “Home of the Brave” is concerned, well, if Americans were truly brave, we certainly wouldn’t be sitting idly by while we are intruded upon, extorted, molested and anything else that is said to be American and “for our safety.” We would stand up to those who are out to oppress us, and put an end to this surveillance society, police state madness. Overworked, underpaid, taken advantage of by a system that can do things to you, which if done by you would result in your certain arrest and incarceration, yet Americans endure it — practically beg for it, even. Let’s stop trading our liberties for false security, and start learning how to live free again.

There will always be difficulties, but the question is, wouldn’t you rather face possible danger as a free individual? Or do you prefer peaceful slavery, with only the wishes of your masters to be concerned about?

Returning to my opening, is America in the middle of revolution? Well, “revolution” is a fundamental change in power or organizational structures that takes place in a relatively short period of time. Aristotle described two types of political revolution, the first is a complete change from one constitution to another. The second is a modification of an existing constitution. Going by those definitions, either of them, I personally do not hope that America is in the middle of revolution. I hope that it’s merely in the beginning of one. And when the totalitarians try to convince you that people you have never met are the threat, while the ones whose names are well known to the public have a vested interest in keeping you down with their laws and regulations, tell those would-be tyrants and warmongers that you choose to live free . . . or die.
