Letter to the Editor: Lupas diseased?

I’m not saying that no one can ever be incompetent to stand trial, but such a disposition should incorporate a loss of liberty to some extent. What I mean is that this guy committed crimes that he cannot be punished for and still gets to run free. What happens when he commits more crimes while running free?

Letter to the Editor: In support of SB 76

Presently, in the Pennsylvania legislature, sits one of the most significant bipartisan pieces of legislation that you may see in your lifetime. Its title is Senate Bill 76 (SB 76) and it will completely outlaw the collection of property taxes to fund public schools. In a revenue-neutral shift, Senate Bill 76 will replace the property tax funding mechanism for schools with small increases in the state sales tax and the personal income tax. This will increase the funding base for public schools and remove the pressure from struggling homeowners to carry the whole load.

Letter to the Editor: Inaction means they win for good!

Children Scenario to distract from the entire picture: illegals aliens celebrating with a huge BBQ the fact they “could made it through the border,” and before that there was a guy cutting a tree in five minutes with a 2 meter-long and 7 cm-wide blade (a machete) in order to hide a white SUV, underneath the tree. This is a stash van, the bank account, I call it. They took the plate out to the van and, of course, this plate went to another car. Tell me about it!

Letter to the Editor: Responsible action needed for Moon Lake Park

With the topic of bond funds being discussed on a worthy capital project such as Moon Lake that will benefit the people of Luzerne County, Bobeck, Haas, Houck, and Williams fail to mention they allowed Lawton to spend $3 million of bond money to run day-to-day operations in the Courthouse in 2012. This was during Mr. Lawton’s first year as manager when he “overspent” $7.4 million more than was authorized by council.

Letter to the Editor: Charlie Wilson’s War

I have been in and out of workers compensation court just about every two months to get my checks again. This has been going on since August 2009. When you work hard for a living you expect the system to be there for you when you need it. I have lost everything because of this accident. I can no longer work because of all the injuries sustained in the accident. I was granted disability the first time a social security doctor examined me, but that doesn’t come close to paying the bills or to what I was making when I was working.

Letter to the Editor: Make sure your house number is visible to first responders

In an emergency, police, fire, and rescue workers depend on house numbers to find YOU as quickly as possible. A difference in minutes can mean the difference between life and death. Finding your home — especially at night — can be challenging if address numbers are unreadable, hidden, unlighted or have missing numbers and may delay emergency responders from getting to you as quickly as possible.

Letter to the Editor: Who regulates the regulators?

Everything (i.e., the quality of life on this rock) gets down to human nature (if there is such). Both capitalism and socialism are dead. A blend of the two seems doable, but THE question remains — who regulates the regulators? This question pre-dates Rome and the Greeks. No system of government is better than the quality of its people.

Letter to the Editor: The failing of freedom

Our government/elected representatives have overstepped their authority by leaps and bounds, simply running rampant like little children who lack parental oversight, boldly and almost childishly saying, “You can’t touch me, nah!” All this is happening while the ones (the PEOPLE) who hold all the power to stop this idly stand by, instead of banding together and simply saying, “Enough is ENOUGH!” This is the kind of apathy that is destroying our way of life, our freedom, and our nation. These acts of treason by our elected representatives won’t stop until we, the people, stand united through either civil disobedience or an all-out revolution, as things will only get worse, just like behavioral issues with a child who is not disciplined by his parent.
