Wilkes-Barre mayoral candidate Tony George issues a call to action

Wilkes-Barre — This past weekend was one of the most violent weekends in recent history. In fact, with the exception of the George Banks massacre, this was arguably the bloodiest weekend in the history of the city.

The city is in a crisis of violence and lawlessness. City residents and business owners are dissatisfied, and appropriately so, with the current state of Public Safety in Wilkes-Barre.

Today, I call on the mayor to direct the Wilkes-Barre Police Department to immediately implement saturation patrols citywide, with a particular emphasis in the most troubled neighborhoods including South Wilkes-Barre, North End, and the Heights.

Further, the Leighton administration should commence immediate efforts to suspend the licenses of Club Envy on S. Main St. in Wilkes-Barre and commence legal proceedings to close that operation.

Such immediate and targeted policing will stop the senseless violence and allow us to restore law and order in Wilkes-Barre’s neighborhoods.
